What is True Self Therapy?
Therapy is personalized for each person I meet with. We will talk about what you want from therapy, what’s difficult in your life, and move forward together mixing my expertise with your knowledge of yourself. I will offer context to the stories of your life, helping to find orientation amidst the struggle. Therapy is a place to slow down, and live in what is true now, in mind, heart, and body. I help folks feel what’s true in their bodies, and cultivate a home in themselves.
My patients gain a deeper understanding of themselves, what they truly want, and how to live authentically in the world. This often involves facing stories of hurt, marginalization, and confusion. We untangle what used to feel simple, and now feels like maybe it wasn’t what we thought it was. Therapy also involves claiming and celebrating the parts of you that are already strong and well! We get to each part of our stories when we’re ready, and not before then. Gradually, therapy offers a space to put each thread of ourselves where it belongs, and weave ourselves better one week at a time. You might find much of yourself is already right where it belongs.
Therapy Details
If you’re familiar with therapy jargon, I practice relational, psychodynamic, somatic, internal family systems therapy. I believe every part of you is doing your best to meet your needs, and some parts are stuck doing things that used to be crucial, and now feel hindering. Every piece of your identity holds meaning. By bringing as much ‘you’ as possible to the conversation, we can learn to become a fuller, better cared for self. The self you sense you can, and want, to be.
Expect therapy with me to be more process and less assignment. When we’re working with the tender and vulnerable parts of ourselves, patience is more useful than urgency. We can make a place where there is time and space for all of you.
